Legal questions about employment contracts
Questioner
I have been working for my employer for 36 years. I have been 'redundant' for 1 year. However, there is a Social Plan and therefore I cannot be dismissed. That is why I am now working odd jobs until I find another job. My current job was supposed to end on 12 September, but could be extended. On 12 September I was informed by email that the job was extended until 1 December 2018. However, today, September 18, I had a conversation and was told that this was a typo. It should be December 1, 2017. My question is: can this just happen? After a week, say it's a typo. A promise by email in this case is legally valid, right? I look forward to hearing from you.Lawyer
If the job is available until December 1, 2017, your employer does not have to give you compensation. If the job is available until December 1, 2018, you may be eligible for compensation under certain conditions. Are you aware that if you resign, you will not be eligible for unemployment benefits? If you wish, you can contact us without any obligation.Take the next step
