Children's nationality: Dutch or Lebanese?
Questioner
I would like to ask a question about my daughter. She is married in Lebanon to a Lebanese. Because they would like to have children, she would like to know what nationality her children will have. Is that Dutch, Lebanese or both nationalities? Because my daughter wants her children to have Dutch nationality, she wants to come to the Netherlands to give birth. Maybe this isn't necessary at all, besides, I think it would be difficult for her husband to come here. Do you know the answers to these questions?Lawyer
Good afternoon, As far as I know, Lebanese nationality is passed on when the father of the child has Lebanese nationality. In the Netherlands, Dutch nationality is passed on if either the mother or the father of the child has Dutch nationality. It does not matter where the child is born. In my opinion, both nationalities would be passed on.Questioner
Thank you for your answer, I will pass it on to my daughter. She will be happy that her children can still get Dutch nationality, even if they are born abroad. We were not sure about this.Lawyer
You're welcome. For the sake of completeness: Dutch nationality follows from article 3 of the Kingdom Act on Dutch Nationality.Take the next step
