Questioner

Good morning I have a question about changing a surname. I have been divorced for 10 years now, and my youngest daughter will be 21 in July 2018. Her great wish is to change her surname to my surname because she has nothing to do with her biological father and does not want to have anything to do with him. In all those years she has seen him maybe 5 times and nothing else, not even from his side to her. Now my question is, is this possible when she is 21? And what steps does she have to take for this? And what are the approximate costs for this? She would prefer that her biological father stays out of this completely, because otherwise he will cause a lot of problems again because that is the only thing he did at the beginning of our divorce. Making her life miserable by involving all kinds of agencies to prove that I would be a bad mother, but all these files have been closed with no consequences. thanks in advance for your help Kind regards

Your daughter can submit a request to change her surname herself. This must be done in writing to the Ministry of Justice. The formalities are in a brochure that you can find on the website of the Ministry of Justice: https://www.justis.nl/binaries/Brochure%20Nameschange%20(juli%202017)_tcm34-85236.pdf For an adult who wants to change his/her surname, the legal costs are €835.
