Registering a Domain Name: What Are the Options?
Questioner
I would like to register a domain name, but I don't know if this is allowed... see my example below. (the domain name below is an example) A company on the internet has purchased a number of domain names in the past. he has registered www.eenvoorbeeld.nl. This domain name is now for sale, but for a high amount.... because I don't want to spend a lot of money on this I want to register www.eenvoorbeeld.com (a .com) and turn it into a web shop.... (I want to sell ''examples'' here) Is this allowed?? or can I get into trouble with this? He has had this domain name for a few years now. Apparently he himself trades in domain names and creates websites.... I would very much like to hear if you can give me an answer to this....Lawyer
Using a domain name in violation of trademark law can be a problem. In that ruling, the use of the domain name was not problematic according to the judge. Using a .com domain name, which only matches a .nl domain name, which is not used as a trademark, does not seem to me to be a problem.Questioner
Thank you for your effort and response. Good to hear, now I see more possibilities regarding a nice domain name. It is not a brand, it is really a product. For example: xxxx How do you see the following example, that doesn't seem to be a problem to me.... Someone has www.xxxx.nl and sells xxxx. I would also like to sell xxxx and would like to register and use the domain name www.dexxxx.nl ('de').... Is this allowed? I think as you indicated earlier this is a similar case right?Lawyer
If xxxx is not a brand name, then using dexxxx.nl should not be a problem.Take the next step
