In principle, you are bound to the contract and often have to pay a severance payment. If there is a trial period, you can terminate the contract without giving a reason. I advise you to first consult with the employer.

In addition to various dismissal routes, the possibility remains to terminate the employment contract by means of a settlement agreement. However, as of 1 July 2015, the employee will have a statutory reflection period of fourteen days. Within this period, the employee can withdraw from the settlement agreement without stating reasons, whereby the employment contract remains in force. After signing the settlement agreement, an employee is given two weeks to terminate this agreement by means of a written statement (Article 7:670b paragraph 2 of the Dutch Civil Code). A reason does not have to be given for this. The term is three weeks if the employer has not explicitly referred to this possibility of termination in the settlement agreement. This is therefore a reflection period afterwards.
