I wrote a book last year. Illustrations from that book were donated and are only to be used for my book. Rights are reserved by the artist. I participated in a project through the municipality. I was supposed to get a banner as a gift, but had to send some photos. I did. By the way, one of my photos was also used for a banner of the municipality. When the artist saw this shared via FB she said that there are rights to it from her and that this is not the intention. Which I of course understand. Now she has sent the municipality an invoice for the use of the banner. The project leader has angrily emailed me with the announcement that the municipality will not pay for this. For me the question: who is responsible in this case? Me because I supplied the photo or the municipality that did not ask me if the photos are mine? I honestly just didn't think about it. I also feel guilty towards the artist, but at the same time, someone should ask the question: are the illustrations yours?Lawyer
You do have a point there. However, you did comply with the rules and the municipality should have asked about this. Due to a combination of circumstances, this was probably overlooked.Questioner
Who should pay the artist's bill now? Me or the Municipality?Lawyer
The Municipality. You have fulfilled your duty. The Municipality should have asked questions.Take the next step
