Rights in case of illness without a contract

Questioner

I have been working in a toy store for a year without a contract. an average of 16 hours per week. What will I be paid if I am sick for 1 week?

Lawyer

An employment contract may/can be entered into verbally. You are then also entitled to payment for 16 hours per week. By law, you are entitled to 70% of your salary (minimum wage) during illness. The employer may also withhold 2 waiting days. The FNV often arranges a higher percentage in a CAO. If there is no CAO, you have to make do with the statutory minimum.
