Legal assistance with car purchase problems

Questioner

Hello, I bought a car that immediately after purchase gave an error message in the dashboard. The seller indicated that the message was probably caused by the car standing still for a long time. After having the car read out I bought it, there would be nothing wrong. I then told the seller that if there was something wrong I would call him. In the meantime it is clear that something is wrong, the camshaft needs to be replaced, all in all a repair of about 1400. The garage says it wants to reimburse 250 as a gesture of goodwill. I believe that the garage is liable for the costs. I wonder if my view is correct.

Lawyer

You are right. There is a question of a defective car now that the camshaft has to be replaced. You were allowed to rely on the statements of the seller and this is held more heavily against him than your duty to investigate. You can therefore also give him written notice of default to replace the camshaft, failing which you will have this done elsewhere at his expense. If you cannot reach an agreement, I would be happy to look at your case.
