Hiding student debt when leasing? Get free advice!
Questioner
I was wondering if you are allowed to conceal your student debt for a lease contract. This is a 2-year lease contract. I have completed my studies when the contract starts, but I am allowed to wait 2 years from that moment to pay off my student debt. This would mean that I do not have to pay off any debts during the lease. Is it possible to conceal these debts from the lease company? (In the EDR check they did ask about these types of debts).Lawyer
You must declare everything that you know and that is intended to test a credit check. A student loan does not necessarily have to be a deal breaker for a credit or lease check, but it does indicate that you may have less repayment capacity. If you do not declare your student loan, this may lead to problems in the future. For example, you must submit bank statements from which your student loan can be determined and this may be a reason for the company to cancel the lease contract. In addition, if you do not disclose the information, the lease amounts can be claimed immediately if it turns out that you cannot meet your financial obligations. In short, you are wise to declare your student loan.Take the next step
