Registration in the Netherlands as a Belgian student
Questioner
Is it possible to be registered with the municipality in 2 countries, if I am temporarily absent in one of them? Situation: I am coming to study in the Netherlands as a Belgian for the next 3 years. But I have no income and therefore want to be fiscally dependent on my parents. Weekends and holidays I will go home but during the week I will stay in rooms. As a foreign student you are obliged to register with the municipality if you will stay longer than 4 months. But if I deregister in Belgium, I am no longer dependent on my parents and we would like to keep this (tax advantage). In the regulations regarding 'temporary absence', as a student you can report yourself as temporarily absent in your home municipality for the duration of your studies. Can I then register in the Netherlands? Can you be registered in 2 countries for the purpose of your studies?Lawyer
According to the information on the website of the Federal Public Service Finance in your country, you are in fact part of your parents' family, even if you have left the parental home for study. Your parents can then still charge the expenses they make for you to the tax year (in this case 2018) That you are studying in the Netherlands does not matter in my opinion, given all the EU regulations on free movement. Being registered in two municipalities is not possible.Take the next step
