Alimony assistance: Your questions answered

Questioner

I have 2 children and a welfare benefit. Now I have to submit an official paper for this regarding the alimony. That is no problem for the youngest child because I receive alimony from the father every month, but for the oldest it is very different. He has a criminal past and that is why he went to live in Curacao 10 years ago (also his nationality). My oldest has had no contact with her father since then and doesn't want to anymore. She even wants to get rid of his name actually. What should I do to avoid getting into trouble with the social services about this, because of course he doesn't pay alimony?

Until the age of 21, your ex must also pay for the eldest child.

Depending on how you get that maintenance paid, I think it will be quite simple for you to solve. The municipality will probably ask you to submit printouts of your bank statements showing the amount of maintenance you receive. Only the payments for the youngest child will be shown on them. You can then show that you receive nothing for the oldest child. If this leads to problems with the municipality, you can always contact me to file an objection on your behalf if necessary.
