Getting married abroad: Legal advice

Questioner

I want to get married abroad where my fiancé lives. I am divorced myself, I no longer have divorce papers, I have been divorced for over 18 years. Is it sufficient if I request the divorce certificate from the town hall where I was married, or do I also have to request it from the court where I was divorced at the time?

Lawyer

You can request a copy of the divorce certificate from the municipality where you lived at the time and where the certificate was drawn up. You can only do this with a valid ID. You may also need a recent extract from the civil registry to prove that you are unmarried.
