Legal questions about music rights
Questioner
For my amateur musical group I want to write a musical with only songs from one artist. We buy the songs. The story has nothing to do with the artist. I would like to have small pieces of the lyrics come back in the text of the players. I would also like to give the musical the title of one of the songs. I have three questions about this: 1. Can we perform a musical with only songs by one artist without permission? 2. Can we use parts of the lyrics from the songs in the players' lyrics? 3. Can we use the title of one of the songs as the title of our musical?Lawyer
The author of the songs is the owner of the exclusive right to it. You must ask permission in advance from the artist' author of the songs, if you agree you can use everything in the musical.Take the next step
