Fine for Driving Under the Influence in Germany? Get Advice!
Questioner
I got a fine for driving under the influence in Germany. The fine is 1000 euros + procedural costs of 355.48 euros. They added 500 euros extra to prevent a driving ban. I filed an appeal because a fine for a first arrest is 500 euros + a one-month driving ban. That's what I'm entitled to, right? This fine was sent on September 19th and I received it on September 22nd. I sent the objection on October 2nd (one day before the two weeks from October 19th expire). Now I get a letter stating that they received the objection on October 5th and according to them that is too late. I now have to provide evidence why the objection could not be submitted on time such as hotel bills, travel documents etc. But those two weeks hadn't officially expired yet. How does this work? And what's the best thing to do now?Lawyer
According to German law, the objection must reach them within two weeks! By the way: depending on the blood test, you must take into account an administrative procedure according to which you will be suspended for at least one year and will not be allowed to drive in Germany before you pass a medical psychological examination ("Idiot Test").Take the next step
