Internet costs in student housing: your rights and obligations

Questioner

I live in a student house where normally 4 people live. Our rental contract states that we are entitled to an internet connection from the landlord. This means that the tenants must jointly purchase a subscription and divide the costs. However, recently we have had 1 less housemate, which means that the internet costs per person are skyrocketing. We as tenants cannot do anything about this. My question is whether the extra costs are indeed for ourselves? Which means that we are dependent on the landlord as to how high our internet costs will be...

Could you clarify your question? You write that you are entitled to an internet connection from your landlord. It is unclear why you should contribute to this and what the personal assessment is based on. Now it seems that you are responsible for the connection yourself?

Apologies for the confusion. We as tenants have to arrange our own internet. The only obligation from the landlord is that a cable connection is possible.
