Tenancy law: Roof repair costs for landlord or tenant?
Questioner
Ir/Madam, In our rental house there was leakage through the roof in several places, noticed because leakage spots on the inside of the roof boarding (the plates on which the roof tiles lie, the roof is not insulated) became visible. This was reported to the landlord. After this report, the landlord had some roof tiles straightened. However, the landlord did nothing about the damage (leakage spots) to the roof boarding visible from the inside. Since this is part of the building and not the contents, we did not repair it ourselves. When the house was delivered, we did not paint over these leakage spots (that also seemed to us to be covering up a defect). Now, upon delivery, the repair of these roof plates is charged to us as the tenant. Is repair of the roof boarding at the expense of the landlord or the tenant? Thanks in advance for your help!Lawyer
This concerns a defect for the account of the landlord. A defect in the home must be repaired by the landlord. Should you require further information, please ask a follow-up question.Take the next step
