Renting and selling a garage: your rights

Questioner

Good morning , I rent a garage next to my apartment that belongs to a neighbor (she once bought the property) I have a lease agreement with an indefinite period. Now there are three motorcycles in it of mine. Now she called me on Sunday to say that she sold her garage. Now of course I googled it but I see more or less that this is possible and that you more or less have no rights as a tenant. They must think that the next day you can just find somewhere else to park them! Maybe in the north of the country but certainly not in Haarlem. If I put them on the street and they get stolen, which I don't want at all! Then the insurance says sorry, they were outside and not in a closed space? Does anyone know if there is really nothing that can be done about this?

Purchase does not break a lease, so the new owner of the garage box will have to continue the lease agreement with you. However, there is no rental protection for the rental of garage boxes. Within the provisions of the lease agreement (notice period), the lease agreement can be terminated. Of course, the landlord must observe the notice period and other termination formalities. The lease agreement ends in principle by the termination, but if you do not agree to this, the landlord will have to request the eviction at the court. There is a possibility to invoke eviction protection for the garage box at the court, so that you can continue to use the garage boxes for a longer period. You must provide the right arguments for this eviction protection. This protection is for a maximum of one year and can subsequently be extended a maximum of two times, each time for a year.
