Legal questions about apartment damage

We live in an apartment complex, in front of our door, so the common hallway, the floor is damaged, probably by a leaking garbage bag of ours, but we do not know this for sure and neither does the management. Now the floor has to be made and the costs are being recovered from us. Is this right?

If it is a common corridor, then all owners are liable for any damage, but this will have to be demonstrated. The VvE (?) will probably be insured for this and the damage will be reimbursed by the insurer.
