Tax Authorities and GDPR: What are your rights?

Questioner

I have a conflict with the tax authorities and have therefore sent the tax inspector an email with a number of questions and my opinion. The inspector forwarded my email to another inspector without my permission. Shouldn't the inspector have asked for my permission? There is such a thing as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). I know that the tax authorities do not comply with this.

You write to the tax authorities as an organization, within this organization your data is shared to the extent that the processes require it. The GDPR does prescribe that the manner in which data is processed is described, but certainly does not prohibit the distribution of this data within an organization. Even if the Tax Authorities were to comply with the GDPR, your correspondence can therefore be shared. It may be different if you have explicitly discussed that the correspondence is confidential and may not be shared. I doubt, however, whether an inspector would agree to such a reservation with you.
