Legal Assistance with Alimony Questions

Questioner

Just before I left my ex, I took out an interest-only loan with her. I now have a different partner and after a few years we took out the loan again to pay it off. I had agreed with my ex in the parenting plan that I would not pay alimony but would take on the repayment of the debt. Now my ex is suddenly demanding alimony and my lawyer indicates that the debt must also be settled. Is that correct? After all these years and despite having to re-take the loan to pay it off, can I still recover part of the debt from my ex?

Lawyer

Settlement of the debt is possible depending on the demonstrable agreements that have been made. The question is whether an alimony request from your ex is legally valid, after all, you have made other arrangements. I am prepared to review the documents free of charge and to advise you further. If you wish, you can contact me directly. Do you have any questions? Please feel free to ask.
