International inheritance law: Discover your rights
Questioner
Dear, I have rich and stingy narcissistic parents who once left an inheritance with many restrictions. Quote father: 'I will make it as difficult as possible for you.' Now I have a few questions: 1) In which countries in Europe is there no inheritance agreement, so that the imposed rules and restrictions are no longer legally valid when I change my nationality? 2 I live in Belgium but have Dutch nationality. I am disabled and therefore I have no pension build-up. Is it true that I will no longer receive a living wage because I refuse the inheritance? (another of my father's threats) Having suffered for years from their narcissism has had a huge impact on my life. Now after their death they want to keep control, which should never be an option. Hence these questions.Lawyer

I did not ask any private questions and will rephrase the questions: 1) Which countries within the EU do not have an inheritance law agreement with the Netherlands. Such that after receiving an inheritance I change nationality so that the rules of the will that have been drawn up are no longer legally valid. 2) Do you lose your living wage if you do not accept an inheritance?Lawyer
Apologies on my part, these are private answers. Hence my request for direct contact.Questioner
I don't want your private life, but just answers to the questions. But if you don't know them, that's okay. There's always someone who can answer me. There's nothing private about my questions and not about an answer to them.Questioner

1) Usually the inheritance is settled according to the law of the EU country where the deceased last lived, unless the deceased has stipulated that the law of his own country applies to the inheritance. However, you may also choose a court yourself to settle the inheritance. If an inheritance has to be settled by a court, this usually has to happen in the EU country where the deceased last lived. However, if the deceased has chosen the inheritance law of his own country and this is an EU country, you and the other heirs and persons involved can choose to have the inheritance settled by a court in that EU country. You must agree on this. 2) You do not lose your subsistence income if you do not accept the inheritance. Visa versa, yes.Take the next step
