Legal Assistance: Apply for a Lawyer Now

Questioner

My housemate and I are not each other's fiscal partners. We both have an income from work, but I also receive a small WIa. Now I need a lawyer for a matter that concerns me only, not my housemate. I want to apply for legal aid. But does my housemate's income still count?

Lawyer

I understand that you live together and have a joint household. Is that correct? Unfortunately, the income of your housemate counts. If desired, I can represent your interests at a very low rate. If you wish, you can contact me directly. Do you have any questions? Please feel free to ask.

Lawyer

In principle, the Legal Aid Board adds up the incomes of people who are registered at the same address. If you do not have a fiscal partner, an exception will most likely be made. I therefore advise you to contact a specialized lawyer as soon as possible. He/she is a member of a specialist association. The first consultation is often free, such as at my office. After the first conversation, the lawyer can request a supplement. If it is granted -> you pay a personal contribution. If it is not granted -> you must make an appointment regarding the payment. In this way, you do not run any (financial) risk.
