Legal Assistance for Sewer Damage Liability

Questioner

Dear ; The new owner of our home wants to recover the unblocking and sewer damage from me after three months of living there. He had sewer work done Without informing us that there was a problem with the sewer. He now writes that there was a hidden problem. And now hold us liable for the cost of the repair. How should I respond to that?

Lawyer

The new owner should have first put you in default before carrying out the repair. By doing so, he deprives you of the opportunity to do so. I advise you to inform him in writing that you might have been prepared to look into the problem, but that this is no longer possible. The costs will therefore be at his expense. If he insists, please contact me directly for consultation.
