Assistance with legal questions about registered partnerships

Questioner

Hello, my relationship recently ended. We have a registered partnership and a house we own. I am currently living with my parents temporarily. However, I still pay half of the mortgage. Now my ex-partner is threatening to put a different lock on the door so that I can no longer get in. If he does this and I stop paying my mortgage, what are the possible consequences of this in the event of a sale of the house or further financial settlement?

Lawyer

Your ex-partner threatens to change the lock on the door. That is not allowed. If you stop paying (part of) the mortgage payments, the costs can still be recovered from you, or they will be settled at the time of the division of the joint estate. It is possible to oblige your ex to pay you a user fee because he is staying in the home and you have to stay elsewhere and incur costs in that sense (as well). Do you have any questions? Please feel free to ask.

Thank you very much for your quick response. What can I do if a different lock is put on the door?
