Ir/Madam, My (ex)wife and I are going through a divorce. I'd like to know what a normal timeframe might be for finalizing a divorce. My current lawyer and I started the process two to three months ago, but the case is often delayed, partly due to the opposing party's resistance. I'm also starting to wonder if my own lawyer is also playing a role in this. I would like your advice to help me decide whether I should perhaps look for a new lawyer myself to possibly speed up the process. Yours sincerely, Robert Schoutrop

I understand that you and your ex both have attorneys. Once the statement of defense has been filed, the other party must file a defense. An extension may be granted for this if there are good reasons. Usually a one-month extension is granted. I cannot judge whether or not your lawyer had a role in this. What matters is whether you have confidence in your lawyer. If this is not the case, I will be happy to represent your interests. Do you have any questions? Please feel free to ask.
