Child support and financial questions after divorce
Questioner
I (a man) divorced in 2012. We had joint custody back then. My ex (wife) moved in together and married a new partner. We didn't pay each other child support; we both earned roughly the same amount. (We said we didn't need each other's spousal support.) Now the situation is very different, namely: - as of 2013, the mother had a new child with the new partner. - As of 2015, we no longer have co-parenting; the two children now live with me full-time, except for the following days: once every two weeks for a weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) and every Wednesday they go to their mother (so on average, they are with their mother 1.5 days a week). - Mother divorced in 2019. additional info: - I receive child benefit and the dependent combination discount. - Mother works, and I expect she still earns about the same as I do. - She owns a house, I rent. Mother keeps saying that I have to pay for everything, school, spot clubs, hairdresser, clothes, food, drinks, and so on, because I get child benefit and the combination discount. My question: is this correct? Shouldn't she contribute more to the children's child support? If so, how can I ensure I receive it? kind regards.Questioner
To determine whether your ex-partner should contribute to the children's expenses, a new calculation will have to be made based on both their incomes. If your ex-partner has the capacity to contribute, you will need to make new arrangements with her. So, your question is difficult to answer without access to the financial data. Thank you for your answer. I have no information about her income, so I assumed (expected) that her income is the same as mine. And then assuming that, what would your answer be? kind regardsQuestioner
Then we could look at both your incomes and calculate child support based on the new visitation arrangement. This will clarify whether and how much she can or should contribute.Take the next step
