Solving rental problems: Legal advice in Curacao

Dear Sir/Madam, We are renting out our property in Curaçao. The tenant has indicated they will be leaving on December 1st, but the contract doesn't expire until August 15th, 2021. My question is, if he stops paying the rent and leaves, can I hire a lawyer in the Netherlands, or do I need to hire a lawyer in Curaçao? Thank you in advance for your answer.

You can engage whoever you want, but if the lease agreement is governed by Curaçao law, it seems logical that you engage a lawyer from there.

Are you a landlord and a tenant, both Dutch? Which law have you declared applicable? Dutch law or nothing, but the law of the Curaçaoan islands? You are not required to hire a lawyer in Curaçao; you can represent yourself. You must explain the tenant's obligations in writing, stating that you will, in principle, hold them to timely rent payments, or you will try to negotiate a buyout with them because, for example, you expect to be able to rent again soon.
