Liability for Deferred Maintenance

Questioner

In May we bought a farm with overdue maintenance. Over the months, we discover how the house was lived in. Cleaning was overdue, pets were neglected, and pets defecated in the house. The problem is such that we have a flea infestation, both on our pets and on our daughter, with all the consequences that entails. My question is, to what extent are the previous residents liable for this?

Questioner

You could have discovered some of the things you listed by conducting further research before purchasing. You cannot rely on this. The flea infestation is a defect, but not a latent defect as defined by law and case law. You must therefore no longer be able to live in the house normally as a result.
