Liability for Gutter Problems - Legal Advice
Questioner
Our terraced house is part of a block of eight houses and is the fourth house from the corner. Our neighbors had a leak in their gutter repaired. The leak was in their part of the gutter, about 60 cm from the property line. We have a good relationship, and we are considering contributing to the costs. But...how is that legally regulated?Questioner
In such a situation, everyone is responsible for their own section of the gutter. Only in the case of a "cross-border" problem can there be joint responsibility, but then only for the respective owners and not for the entire block (unless the entire gutter needs to be replaced). Your neighbors cannot force you to contribute, but you are, of course, free to make arrangements with them.Take the next step
