Rights for Unpaid Working Hours
Questioner
Dear reader, I work at one of the largest electronics stores in the Netherlands. I work about 1 hour per day without being paid (15 minutes before and after work and a half hour unpaid break). Now this week we have a mandatory unpaid staff meeting. And the director has a new plan. 9 mandatory team meetings per year, also unpaid, but there is a party for the team at the end of the year. Is all this allowed? So much mandatory attendance without being paid?!Questioner
Your employer doesn't have to pay for a 30-minute lunch break when you're actually off. After all, you don't have to work. If you do have to work during the break, your employer is obligated to pay. Fifteen minutes before the break and fifteen minutes afterward -> what does the collective labor agreement say about this? Mandatory attendance at team meetings is considered working time. The employer must therefore pay for this time.Take the next step
