Can I go to America with a criminal record?

Questioner

In August 2018 I committed a shoplifting (around 30 euros worth of goods). The police were called, and I ended up having to pay €207. As a result, I now have a criminal record. At the time, I did this terribly stupid thing because I was suffering from burnout; I was completely lost. I then got psychological help and am now back to normal. I'm now almost 62 years old and have never had a criminal record. I'm now happily retired. We now want to go to America on April 23rd. The trip has already been booked and partially paid for. I've also arranged the ESTA, and it's been approved. Now my question: Can I enter the US despite my criminal record? I'm reading a lot of different opinions about accepting a criminal record.

You've now arranged an ESTA. According to this link, https://estavs.nl/veiligheidsvragen, an ESTA is only denied if the offense committed caused serious damage or serious bodily injury. This is not the case in your case, and therefore nothing prevents your entry into the US.
