School Liability - Get Free Advice

Questioner

Good evening, My daughter's phone, MacBook, wallet with cards, and ID were stolen during class. The students had to go to another classroom, the door was left unlocked, and when they returned, they found a large number of students' belongings had been stolen. We believe the teacher is responsible, as he didn't lock the door and it happened during his lesson. However, the school refuses to reimburse us for the items. Could you please tell us if we can still claim the school's compensation for the items? Kind regards,

Questioner

It will depend somewhat on the circumstances (to what extent the students were expected to have this matter with them and to what extent they should have taken measures themselves), but at first glance this appears to be extremely careless conduct on the part of the teacher and the school is liable for this.

Questioner

Good afternoon, Thank you for your response. Students bring their bags with their belongings to every lesson with this teacher. In between, they go to a different classroom. When they return, they need their belongings again to continue their lessons. Could you advise me on how I can still hold the school liable? Thank you in advance for your response! Yours sincerely

Questioner

You can do this by sending a letter to the school explaining what happened, what you blame the school for, stating that you hold the school liable for the damages, and detailing the extent of the damages. You then request that the amount of the damages be transferred to your bank account.

Questioner

Good afternoon, I've already done this by email to her study career counselor. But the student counselor has been told that the school won't cover it. Can I do it again by letter?
