Claiming compensation for termination of employment contract
Questioner
Dear, My employment contract ends on June 30, 2020. I started working for 40 hours per week on October 1, 2019. My contract states: "This employment contract is effective as of October 1, 2019. The employment contract ends automatically on June 30, 2020 without any notice of termination being required.'' My manager verbally indicated two months ago that my contract would not be renewed. However, there has been no written confirmation of this, which should be required under Article 7:668 of the Dutch Civil Code. It's clear to me that I'll be out of work after June 30th, but could I still claim compensation for not receiving a notice letter? I would like to know whether I can claim compensation from my current employer. Yours sincerely,Questioner
Yes, that's possible. Your employer should have given notice of termination at least one month before the employment contract. Since they haven't done so, you can claim this from them. If they refuse, please contact me for further assistance.Take the next step
