Seller's Liability for Housing Problems?

We received the keys to our house in July. Now that it is getting colder, it turns out that the Vailiant boiler no longer works. A technician came and indicated that there had been a previous leak that had damaged the circuit board. The expansion tank and other components were also broken. The technician indicated that, given the lack of any damage, this wasn't a case of skipping a single service, but rather that maintenance had been neglected on numerous occasions. The cost to have it repaired is approximately €800 to €1000. The underfloor heating pump is also broken, costing approximately €300. When we purchased our house, we did not have a building inspection report drawn up. Now my question is to what extent can I still hold the selling party liable for this? Yours sincerely,

The question then becomes whether the defects could have been discovered by having an inspection carried out. Incidentally, it's different if the seller gives you their word (see the defect list) that nothing is wrong or if they're unfamiliar with the electrical installations, because then they've lied, and you can still hold them accountable.
