Can I claim compensation from my landlord?

Questioner

I have been renting an energy-neutral new-build home (since mid-November 2020) and have had various problems with the energy and heating system of the house since it was completed. Last weekend, to make matters worse, the system caught fire, meaning that we cannot live in the house until further notice. I expressed my concerns about the system two months ago (by email), but I have never received an answer. We had the following problems: - solar panels were only connected one month after delivery - the heat pump had a problem, which meant that the heating did not get higher than 17 degrees - the energy consumption of the heat pump increased to 4x the normal consumption - heat distribution is not properly adjusted - power loss of solar panels compared to the neighbors (same installation, but we have more panels) - fire... We are now being assisted by the home contents insurance, but this does not cover the emotional damage, frustration and time required to deal with these matters (fire).

Your frustration and emotional damage aside, you can still try to recover other consequential damages due to non-performance, such as having to take days off, stay elsewhere, etc.
