Rental agreement not signed

Questioner

Last month I contacted a landlord for a room. I was supposed to move in mid-March. I didn't sign a contract. Now I want to cancel it because I find it very expensive for the small space and because I was told that I will soon no longer have my current job. The landlord did not agree and now demands that I pay this entire month's rent because the room will probably be empty for a month. Is this possible if I never signed anything? I did agree via email.

More likely that the landlord will rent it out again a day after the date of the lease agreement, then he will enrich himself and that is not the intention. And he must provide proof of an agreement. A signature does not matter, as long as there is agreement on the basis, what is rented for how long and the price and the purpose.
