How would I get back my own paid for property that my ex won't give back?

My ex and I broke up. Now I bought quite a bit of furniture with my own money. I'm just a student, so you can probably understand that I had to work hard for my stuff. My ex changed the locks (this was allowed by the landlord) and he won't agree to give me my stuff back. I want to reclaim my belongings but I don't have money to pay for a lawyer and so on.

You say your ex, in the sense of marriage partnership cohabitation agreement or cohabitation without? That makes a difference. In the latter case, there was sometimes a simple community of movable property. Otherwise, contact me. I often write to exes to return things and attached items.
