Do we have to pay for fencing?

We bought a new house. Now our current neighbours suddenly want to put up a new fence and expect us to help pay. We have indicated that we do not want this because of moving and if they do want to wait a while, perhaps the new residents will want to help pay. The current fence is still good. Are we within our rights to say that we no longer want to help pay?

A good shared fence does not need to be replaced and you will also have a reasonable argument to expect, every claim or demand must be reasonable and actually serve an interest.
