Do I have to pay the debts of the deceased?

I am the sole heir. The testator has a debt of 2000 euros to someone who has just died. His heirs claim the 2000 euros from me. The debt was originally drawn up by the father of my testator who has now died 17 years ago. Do I have to pay this debt? It was drawn up by a notary.

If you have accepted the inheritance under benefit of inventory, you do not have to pay the 2000 euros. Ask your notary to what extent this is the case.
