I have a question about my living situation. I am a doctor and also a dentistry student and currently live in a rental house in The Hague where I am also registered (GBA). Because of my low income I also receive housing benefit here. Because of my dentistry studies in Nijmegen I live there during the week. I currently rent a studio there through subletting. For the coming academic year I will have to look for a new space to rent. My question is whether I am obliged to register in 2 municipalities or whether I can remain registered in The Hague and also rent a house in Nijmegen without registering there. Given my rather negative experiences with the government and the slow administration, I do not want to lose my right to housing benefit in The Hague and the best option. I would like to receive your advice regarding registering in 2 municipalities. Thank you in advance!

No, you can only register at a residential address and legally you don't really have a choice in that, you live where you spend most of your time, or your social life is, or your family is, where you work or study. The question is to what extent a municipality will start an address investigation on its own initiative.
