Why should I pay the landlord to find a new tenant?
Questioner
I rented a room, but due to personal circumstances I could no longer stay in the room and I immediately informed the landlord (beginning of April). He still asked that I have to pay the month of May in between that we find another tenant together to take over my contract. Finally I had to pay the month of May knowing that we already have a tenant and that he could move in right away. On May 8th I took everything out of the room and gave the new tenant the keys. Today I received an email stating that 240 euros will be deducted from my deposit for finding and processing a new tenant. It also says that I paid 137 euros for the month of May which means until the new tenant signed the contract and took me over. My question is why should I pay 240 euros if I kept paying the rent until the last minute?Lawyer
If you cancel the rent at the beginning of April, you still have to pay the month of May because there is a one-month notice period. Of course, you do not have to reimburse the costs for finding a new tenant.Take the next step
