What about home ownership if you split up?

We have a house and mortgage together. We are going to separate, I temporarily in a house of friends where I will pay rent, ex stays in the house and pays the mortgage etc. What risks do we run? Is it better to pay half each so that we both remain owners?

You are each required to bear half of the costs, at least the fixed costs. The person leaving the house must receive a usage fee, which is not so much these days. Payment or not has no effect on ownership but leads to a claim from one to the other.
