There is a work meeting scheduled 2 days in advance on my roster day off. I can't attend because I can't find a babysitter for my 2 year old daughter. Now I get the answer: keep in mind that decisions are made that you have no influence on. Can they just apply this while they are scheduling a meeting at such short notice? I have barely had time to arrange a babysitter.

Your employer must adhere to good employer practices. Incidentally, this is an open legal standard. This means that the law does not elaborate on what can be considered to be included under good employer practices. In my opinion, your employer's conduct does not comply with good employer practices. You could address your employer on this and request that the meeting be scheduled on a date that you can also attend, or at least on a date for which you can arrange childcare.
