Why do I have to pay maintenance contributions for my child to the municipality?

Questioner

I pay child support to my Ex. Now I have to pay child support to the municipality on top of this. My child is 16. Is this mandatory? How is the contribution calculated?

Lawyer

If the municipality comes to recover maintenance from you, this will be done on the basis of a calculation that they will present to you. If the amount has been determined, you can object to this, for which the term is six weeks. The calculation method is actually the same as that used by the courts (Trema).

Questioner

Municipality does not ask for alimony but maintenance contribution. I pay child support to my ex. What is the difference between alimony and maintenance contribution?

Lawyer

That is the same. I advise you to request the calculation of the amount and to file an objection with the municipality in a timely manner.
