Dry cleaner ruined jacket and says there's nothing more they can do.

Questioner

I had taken a jacket to the dry cleaners of the supermarket because there was a nasty stain on the sleeve. After treatment, however, the stain appeared to be still there. I could have the jacket cleaned again free of charge but at my own risk. I did so, but now my jacket has discoloured in several places, as if it had been in a dye bath. According to the receipt they provided, they say that it could not be cleaned as expected but also that they can no longer do anything. But there are only a lot of NEW stains in it. The stain in the sleeve has been fixed. I suspect they did a more aggressive cleaning but that ruined my jacket of over 200 euros at the time. Can I still hold them liable?

Lawyer

I think the problem is that you had to make the decision to have your jacket cleaned for the second time with little information. Perhaps that was a reason for you to ask further what the consequences could be. Furthermore, there is of course the question of how old the jacket is. Movable property has an insurance value. If you know that value, you can better estimate whether it makes sense to pay legal attention to it.
