Cancelling your golf club membership
Questioner
At our golf club you can cancel your membership every year before October 1st and that will then take effect on January 1st of the following year. Now the board is planning to increase the contribution for people aged 80 and over - who until now only pay 50% of the regular contribution - to the level of the younger members, in fact doubling it. Am I legally within my rights if I still terminate my membership at the end of the year because of that drastic increase?Lawyer
In the event of a (large) increase, you can usually cancel a membership/subscription. You did not take out membership under those conditions. It may be important what exactly is stated in the terms and conditions. But an increase in the contribution by 50% seems at first sight a valid reason for termination (whether or not as of the date that the higher contribution takes effect).
