Access to home denied
Questioner
I have been living with my mother-in-law since August 2021, together with my girlfriend and daughter. After heavy arguments with my mother-in-law, she kicked me out by reporting that I had threatened her, which was not the case, and she recently also kicked my girlfriend and daughter out on the street. We are waiting for a date that we can move into our new rental home. My mother-in-law is now denying us access to her home, where all our belongings are still in (clothing, television, refrigerator, washing machine, dryer and my daughter's furniture). The police indicate that they cannot do much for us here.Lawyer
If the items are your property, someone cannot simply keep your items. Can you prove that the items are yours? In that case, it is possible to write to your mother-in-law to enable you to come and collect the goods (possibly after the goods have been neatly put outside, for example). If there is no response, there is always a possibility to request the judge to oblige your mother-in-law by judgment to hand over the goods. My advice would be to first request in writing that the items may be collected (or have them collected). Please feel free to contact me if you require legal assistance.Take the next step
