Do I have to adhere to the notice period if I do not sign my contract extension?
Questioner
As a student I work at an organization, as of February 1st my contract would be extended for half a year. The contract is already ready to be signed. Now I plan to stop working there, if I do NOT sign the contract do I still have to adhere to the notice period?Lawyer
Under Article 7:667 of the Dutch Civil Code, a fixed-term employment contract ends on the date stated in the contract. Termination is then not necessary, unless this has been agreed in the employment contract, for example. There are often more rules that apply to the employer, such as the fact that the employer must inform you in advance whether they would like to extend the contract. It is therefore important to read the employment contract and any collective labor agreement again, but in most cases you do not have to give notice.
