Heat pump noise pollution
Questioner
My neighbours have installed a heat pump on the shared rear façade and it is located approximately 10 cm from the boundary. This pump gives a piercing blow to my home. What are my rights? I have informed my neighbours but they are not prepared to do anything about it.Lawyer
It usually depends on the exact case. For example, it can make a difference whether you both rent from the same company or owner, or whether it is a case of owner-occupied homes. Apart from these questions, there should be no nuisance. If someone causes nuisance and there is objectively a disruption, it is usually possible to demand that the other party do something about the nuisance. It is then important that you can demonstrate that there is a nuisance. For example, with sound measurements/recordings or registration of the vibrations. The distance from the pump doesn't matter much in that respect. Even if it is further away from the property line, but there is a nuisance, you can write to the neighbours. Why don't the neighbours want to do anything about the situation?
