Pets and temporary rentals

Questioner

Since July 2021 I have been living in Nuenen through Landlord. Last Thursday I received a phone call that they had received a complaint about my cat. On the phone I was told that I had been told in the intake interview that pets were not allowed. However, I never had an intake interview. The house I had responded to was no longer available, but I was called that there was another apartment available in the same complex. And because the house had to be rented out immediately, I received a number of photos of the apartment by email. I was not given the opportunity to view it first, I had to make a decision within a few hours. At the time I was forced to agree to this because my previous house was bought by the municipality of Son en Breugel and I was subsequently given a year to find another house. The landlord had me pick up the key immediately, pay all costs and move. The documents that were provided to me by email do not state anything about pets not being allowed, and the signed rental contract also does not state anything about pets. So, briefly: - Because there was a complaint I got the message ''Either the cat goes, or you and the cat go. Because that will cause us trouble.'' Now I have to send them an email about it, then I get a response with a period in which I have time to find something for my cat. Or I get another home. - I was told that I was told in the intake interview that pets are not allowed. I never had an intake interview. - The documents they provided via email do not state anything about pets not being allowed. - The signed rental agreement does not state anything about pets not being allowed. I am far from a lawyer myself, but my gut feeling tells me that something is wrong here. So, is this allowed? Thanks for reading, Yours sincerely,

You must adhere to obligations under the contract and the provisions that were offered to you in advance. That is not the case now. Moreover, a general ban on having pets is usually called unreasonable and not legally valid. The landlord must clearly state in predetermined conditions why there is a specific ban on pets. (for example, cats and cat allergies)
